Over the Easter break, Mike and Jinx put up a new home for the swallows, who should be returning from Africa soon.
This is in between the garage and the large barn, with access both ends.
The accommodation includes 2 semi-detached shelves for self-builds, plus a des res ready-to-go home, with under eaves access from both the north and the south aspects.
we hope they at least look at them........
After lovely weather over the Easter holiday, early morning mist promises another good day
Blockwork continues upwards in all bunkrooms and corridor
Drains going in prior to the concrete pour in the wash room next week
the steels arrive.....
Lintels go in over the corridor and the doorways to the bedrooms
and the angled doorway into the large dorm rises up - very tricky to cut the angled blocks
next drain in from shower in combined shower & toilet room
and the showers and loos are marked out, and exit pipework goes in
In the early morning sunshine on Thursday, the pied wag attacks itself in the telehandler's mirror
all whilst another pied wag looks on....a female I guess.
meanwhile, back in the barn.....
additional layers over the lintels to bring up the final ceiling height
Drains continue outside the building to the foul manhole cover along the side of the wash room
and also to the manhole cover at the front for the back toilet/shower, and for the upstairs toilet
On Friday, an early morning sunrise promises another fantastic day to end the week
with early morning moon high in the sky above Ingleborough
These photo opportunities are lost with my bridge camera - we need a proper photographer here to make the most of them....any offers?
Arrived back from the supermarket to see a beam going in....
and inside ready for lifting up...good job we've got a team of 4 builders working together
Finally, in place - one side mortared into place
and the two halves are bolted together over the corridor
Drainwork inside ready for concrete pour next week
and also in place outside
The concrete pour for the wash room and drying room is planned for next Thursday
Ground floor windows are being made at Wonder of Wood in Stainforth, a local sustainable company growing and creating local jobs & near enough to see the windows in progress
The frames have been made in Accoya, a sustainable softwood that undergoes a non-toxic process to reduce swelling and shrinkage, with an exterior life of 50 years.
Final colour samples from the paint supplier have been ordered in the actual paint type used by Wonder of Wood. Glazing will be ordered next week.
